"The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals."
Melody Beattie
New Year's Resolutions for 2017
"Ring out the false, ring in the true."
Alfred Lord Tennyson
YEAR OF 2017
"The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective."
G.K. Chesterson

What should I do? Where to go?
How to live?
- Make 4.5-level tennis your home.
Know the players, develop healthy rivalries, respect your opponents, and feel comfortable in your new long-term home.
STATUS: Nice, especially the captaining part! Now just temper your tennis to one season of captaning. Find the sweet spot between playing too much and playing too little.
- Do a good job of captaining tennis teams.
Help allow others to enjoy competition through your efforts to coordinate and lead the team. Facilitate the happiness of teammates by making matches possible via paperwork and scheduling..
STATUS: It sure took a lot of time and energy, but it is coming along. A long-term investment.
- Keep kids humming along well.
1st and 4th grade: sports after school and love of literature. Healthy bodies and healthy brains.
STATUS: Nice. This is going well....
- Backyard and House
Plant it and let it grow step by step. Over time and in stages let back yard organically develop. Have some social gatherings there. Continue to upgrade house.
STATUS: Meh.
- Classical music
Carve the time out of busy days and nights to enjoy beautiful music. Listen to Jim Svejda’s show at seven pm while preparing dinner.
STATUS: Started off ok, but faded down the back stretch of the year.
You made some serious advances in eating and drinking habits that were healthy, healthy, healty. Continue these! As you approach fifty, it is more important than ever if you want to feel and compete well in sports and in life.
STATUS: Doing pretty well here, not that it seems to make much of a difference.

- "How to Hug a Porcupine: Negotiating the Prickly Points of the Tween Years Negotiating the Prickly Points of the Tween Years" by Julie Ross
